This work is part of a series of nine colour linocuts of famous London monuments, commissioned by Editions Alecto in 1966 in 4 or 5 blocks on unsized filter paper and printed by the artist at his studio in Brick House, Great Bardfield. Bawden used a variety of techniques on his series including softening the surface of the linoblock with paint stripper and utilising a wire brush to create different surface textures, thus maximising the greys of his palette.
