Drink and Know Yourself, 2025

“I am drawn to myths and rituals, especially those rooted in Dionysian traditions, where boundaries blur and identities shift. These stories offer a way to question how we construct the self – physically, socially and spiritually.
I mostly work with textiles like muslin, silk and calico – natural, breathable materials that carry histories of care and use. Their softness and rawness feel close to skin or faded cloth, intimate yet ancient. In my studio, I make my own pigments from raw materials, including carmine from cochineal insects, a process that feels deeply connected to the body, care, and natural cycles. The colours that emerge – wine reds, dusty purples – hold tension, evoking blood, nourishment, sensuality and decay all at once.”

Lucrezia’s work explores transformation, materiality, and the female body as a site of tension – between fragility and strength, silence and presence. ‘Drink And Know Yourself’ relates to a story Lucrezia wrote called ‘The Milky Sisters’, inspired by Euripides’ tragedy ‘The Bacchae’, and is part of a group of works focusing on women discovering their true selves, far from the limits of a patriarchal structure. “Through textured surfaces and faded, shifting forms, I explore presence as unstable but charged- where stillness isn’t empty, but full of tension, memory and potential.”
