John Bratby’s work features vibrant colours painted or applied thickly onto canvas. His paintings often portrayed his family and scenes of middle-class domestic life – a less gritty version of the Kitchen Sink school of painting. Bratby represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1956. Here, the model is the artist’s wife, Patti.
