Ben Whitworth, The sculpture of Leon Underwood, Much Hadham, 2000 (plaster cast (edition of 7) illustrated, no. 121)
Leon Underwood’s Atalanta is an example of his fascination with rendering movement in three dimensional forms. He attempts to capture the qualities of rhythm and movement throughout all of his work. Here we can clearly see the movement of the body through the curvilinear placement of the arms and legs. There is an obvious fluidity moving throughout the sculpture.
