Woking, The Lightbox, Bodies! The Ingram Collection, 21 November 2015 – 31 January 2016
Pomichal’s work explores the history of art, drawing on post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism and Renaissance art, amongst others. Bathers I and II were made in response to the long Slovakian summer and inspired by a woodcut by Max Pechstein, a German expressionist painter and printmaker, expelled by the Nazis. They also explore the idealised (and now canonised) depictions of similar scenes by artists such as Cézanne, Renoir and Bouguereau.
