This tender painting of a domestic scene is a warm portrayal of family life. After serving in the Army during the Second World War, Alan Lowndes studied painting at evening classes at Stockport College and by the late 1940s was painting full time. His painting, mostly of industrial scenes in the north of England, was highly regarded by the painter, Terry Frost.
