Literature:
Cecil Collins was associated with the Surrealist movement in Britain, as were others in the collection, for example Eileen Agar, John Craxton and John Tunnard. The face depicted here with large melancholy eyes confronts the viewer – a pictorial device he used time and again. Also typical of Collins in his rhythmic use of line and pattern as seen in the hair and the sitter’s dress.
