Alan Reynolds made his reputation as a landscape painter in the 1950s but by the 1960s he was developing a more abstract and constructivist way of working. Landscape, Moulton, 1953 and Bleak November, 1955-56 are fine and typical examples of his early work. Reynolds was born in Suffolk and Moulton is a village in Suffolk on the border of Cambridgeshire.
