John Craxton was influenced by the English Romantic landscape painter Samuel Palmer and the English Surrealist landscape painter Graham Sutherland. Landscape, Tresco was painted after the Second World War, when Craxton began to reference more European avant-garde artists such as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro.
