Geoffrey Clarke’s career was heavily driven by commissioned work one of which included the public commission to work on the stained glass windows at Coventry Cathedral. This commission, along with his experience with religion as a child, later inspired his use of symbols and signs in his art practice. His first solo show was held at Gimpel Fils Gallery in 1952. That same year he was included in the Venice Biennale. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Tate Gallery, Royal Academy, and Whitechapel Art Gallery.
