One of Richard Eurich’s earliest paintings, Portrait of a Gentleman was painted in 1929, the year of his first one-man show at the Goupil Gallery where he exhibited only drawings. The mysterious yet charming sitter remains a conundrum. The rosy cheeks and jaunty appearance are those of a debonair young man, whilst the grey hair that sprouts beneath his hat suggests an older person.
