Literature:
M. Livingstone, Kitaj, London, 2010 (no. 973, pl. 249)
American by birth, R.B. Kitaj had lived in Britain for forty years before returning to live in Los Angeles in 1997. This painting shows Kitaj as an older man in his mid-seventies, a year before he died. As in Self Portrait with Greta Prozor, he depicts a work of art in the background.
