Captured in Crete in 1941, Terry Frost became a prisoner of war in Stalag 383, Bavaria. Here he caught the attention of a fellow prisoner, the artist Adrian Heath, who noticed the portraits Frost was producing, and encouraged him to think that a career as an artist was possible. This self-portrait shows that Frost continued working in traditional figurative style throughout his career.
