D. Farr and E. Chadwick, Lynn Chadwick Sculptor, Oxford, 1990 (another cast illustrated, no. C53A, p. 328)
Lynn Chadwick began his career as an architectural draughtsman. This background in architecture influenced his individual style in sculpture. When creating his sculptures he would take steel rods and weld them in a criss-cross which formed three dimensional shapes. He then filled this armature with an industrial compound of iron filings and plaster. Once dried it could be worked with chisels and files. He continued this method until 1950 when he switched to casting in bronze. This allowed him to begin to create editions. He also later cast in silver and gold.
