Ben Nicholson told Terry Frost that the visual imagery of the Cornish coast would last him a lifetime. In this work, almost thirty years after his original move to St Ives, Frost has distilled the loops, ellipses, and shapes originating from the Cornish seascape. The shapes of boats, buoys, and waves, are transformed into an intensity of colour, characteristic of his later work in which he became increasingly interested in colour as a presence in itself.
