The Light/The Dark is an intaglio etching, concerned with the retrieval of the female gaze, subtly challenging narrow Western ideals of female beauty. The portrait focuses on the act of mark-making, using the line to build up a light and darkness that is both real and experienced. It’s the dualistic and complex nature of being human that has driven these portraits. They are a form of self interrogation that hopefully also draws upon universal experiences.
