This work was a commission by the then London County Council for the Hilgrove Estate on the recommendation of the Arts Council. Leon Underwood very cleverly and effectively achieved a sense of weightlessness with a perfectly even distribution of the sculpture; the point of contact with the base is just one foot. Public appreciation of the work was not perhaps quite so acute: a cartoon in Punch in January 1964 showed it being used as a climbing frame.
