Sir Anthony Caro, O.M., C.B.E., R.A.

A sculptor, Caro studied at Christ’s College in Cambridge, Regent Street Polytechnic 1946 and the Royal Academy 1947–52. He worked as Henry Moore’s 1951–3 and had his first solo exhibition at the Galleria del Naviglio in Milan in 1956. A recipient of the Paris Biennale Sculpture Prize (1959), he exhibited his non-figurative work at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1963. One of the most celebrated sculptors of the twentieth century, Caro was knighted in 1987 and received an OB in 2000. He was also awarded the Praemium Imperiale for Sculpture in Tokyo in 1992 and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Sculpture in 1997. In 2004 he was elected a Royal Academician.
