Buying as a Curator – Our new purchases for The Impact of War show

We recently bought The Surrender of Jerusalem by James McBey and Bivouacs at Ver sur Mer by Robin Charles Ball.

“We are putting on an exhibition entitled ‘The Impact of War’ at The Lightbox in Woking (October 2014-January 2015). This will be made up totally of works from The Ingram Collection. The Collection is now big enough (around 500 pieces) to put on 3 shows simultaneously at different venues without detracting from any of them.

I now curate as I buy – there is a lot of enjoyment to be had buying this way. I was certainly thinking of the War show when I bid on these pieces. The Impact of War will be a different slant on the important work being done in this centenary year. A lot of Britain’s best artists did their best work during the Wars and it is intriguing to see what happened afterwards – some took advantage of Europe re-opening to travel and enjoy life; others suffered hugely. We will exhibit both wartime and Post-War works. I’m looking forward to it”.
