This drawing, squared up ready for transferring onto a larger paper or canvas, shows a train with soldiers at Platform 3. A crowd gathered on the platform is pushing towards the train’s open door, trying to board. This is a scene typical of the period with troops coming and going in mid-Second World War. The William Roberts Society’s Catalogue Raisonné reveals an alternative title for this drawing, The Railway Station, c. 1942 (aka Soldiers on a Train).
