A pair with Civil Aviation, this work was commissioned by the United Steel Companies Ltd for an advertisement in The Architectural Review. The brief was to celebrate the role of the civil engineer in creating the new cityscape of swooping highways – a revolution planned before the war but not fully implemented until the 1960s. While the cars may look mildly sinister, it is the flyover itself, with its fabulous twisting form, that steals the scene.
